spring water. If you don't fancy paying the car entry fee you can park by the gate and
walk.
There are six lakes in the vicinity of Dariganga; all are part of the Ganga Nuur Nature
Reserve, but apart from Ganga Nuur they are not really good for swimming, with boggy,
muddy edges and plenty of reeds.
Moltsog Els SAND DUNES
The sand dunes in the region are known as Moltsog Els and stretch for 20km, coming to
within walking distance of Dariganga village.
Sleeping & Eating
If you have a vehicle, you can camp on the shores of Ganga Nuur.
Dariganga has a few basic shops on the main street, alongside a couple of tsainii gaz-
ar .
Dagshin Bulag TOURIST GER CAMP$
( 9626 0066, 9191 7257; ger T40,000) There is only really one working ger camp, Dagsh-
in Bulag, that lies about 1.5km south of the village. It consists of four guest gers and an
outdoor privy, though the owners have ambitious plans to redesign the camp, providing
visitors with hot showers and beauty treatments that involve horse milk and mud from a
nearby spring. Watch this space. If prodded, the owners may provide meals at extra cost.
Information
Permits are required for Dariganga and Shiliin Bogd and technically should be re-
gistered.
If you are coming from Dornod you shouldn't have any trouble getting to Shiliin Bogd
and on to Dariganga; this allows you to travel directly from the Khalkhiin Gol area and
Dornod Mongol Strictly Protected Area, bypassing Choibalsan and Baruun-Urt. This is
the most scenic drive in eastern Mongolia and will be faster than heading back through
Choibalsan. Make sure you have this route listed on your border permit.
