In-Depth Information
(East Palace; 01582-22277, 9906 6777; Kherlen Örgön Chölöö; s/tw with breakfast from
T50,000/90,000; )
East Palace has comfortable, modern rooms with bright colours and
lots of sunlight, as well as a sauna and fitness room. They may not have a presidential
suite, but you can stay in 'parliament' (T150,000). It's about 600m west of the centre.
Eating & Drinking
Both the To Van and the East Palace hotels have decent restaurants.
9am-10pm Mon-Sat, noon-7pm Sun)
Next to the post office.
Azu Restaurant
CHINESE$$$
(Kherlen Örgön Chölöö; mains T8000-12,000)
Delicious smells lure you into this pink restaur-
ant, sit you down at one of the dark-wood tables and make sure you order one of the sizz-
ling platters of spicy pork with vegetables, or a noodle dish, or, or…it doesn't matter, it's
all glorious. This great restaurant is perpetually packed with locals who come for its
Chinese-style offerings.
Winners Pub
PUB
( noon-11pm Mon-Sat)
The first theme pub in Choibalsan sports English Premier League
paraphernalia on the walls, comfy red-leather sofas and a variety of Western and Mongo-
lian dishes. The limited beer menu (Heineken? Really??) doesn't score too highly with
us, though.
Shopping
Market
MARKET
( 9am-7pm)
Choibalsan's proximity to China means that its market is well stocked.
Purchase anything from fresh produce, dried dairy products and a local relish made of
spring onion and garlic (great for livening up that mutton!) to saddles, Mongolian hats
and boots.
