A magnet for visiting Russians,
Traktir serves you the likes of
pelmeni
(boiled meat dumplings), chicken cutlets and
grilled meats with mushroom sauce, with welcome helpings of vegetables on the side.
Eat in the cosy dining room, decked out with photos of ye olde Russia, or sip a beer on
the shaded summer terrace.
Marco's Pizza

Thin and crispy pizzas are
served by Erdenet's resident Italian in this homey little cafe across the street from the
football pitch. Toppings range from veggie to meat lover's (bacon, beef, chicken) and de-
lectable melt-in-your-mouth homemade fettucine is also on the menu. Finish off with a
chocolate pizza or ice cream with espresso.
Modern Nomads

A branch of this ever-popular restaurant has
finally made its way to Erdenet, bringing you large portions of Mongolian dishes, salads
and soups selected from a traveller-friendly picture menu. The adjoining Aurora bar
shares a kitchen with Modern Nomads and serves American-style steaks and burgers
alongside regular live music and beer.

Carpet Factory
CARPETS

The city's carpet factory is open year-round but
production is low in summer (June to August) when supplies of wool are scarce. Prices at
the shop and the attached new outlet are similar to those at the Naran Tuul Market in
Ulaanbaatar, but the selection here is much better and a carpet makes a fine souvenir.
Floor carpets measuring 2m by 3m start from around T180,000 and the factory has now
branched out into cashmere products. It's just off the main road to the train station, about
2km from the Friendship Monument.
