( 8am-6pm) A little difficult to find but worth seeking out is this attractive little monas-
tery. Housed in a pretty log cabin in the old town, it has a host of protector deities and a
tree encased in blue khatag (silk scarves).

These two monuments, linked by a pedestrian bridge across a busy road, are near the
roundabout between the new and old towns. Locals come here to socialise at sunset.

floor bar adds a bit of spice to this compact hotel, so unless you're a night owl, ask for a
room upstairs. The renovated rooms are clean and feature new furnishings but the service
is a little harried. It's set back behind the Urtuchin and Comfort hotels.

) This Soviet throwback offers refurbished en-suite rooms with tall ceilings and good
showers, a restaurant with chintzy decor, a sauna (T5000 per hour) and a fitness room.
For a real blowout, go for the three-room deluxe lux, with rather old-fashioned furnish-
ings but oodles of space.

US$40/50/60/90; ) Darkhan's best hotel has spotless, well-maintained, yet largely un-
memorable rooms decorated in pastel shades. There's a decent restaurant, a fitness centre
to help burn off the calories, a sauna to steam in and friendly staff who speak some Eng-
lish. Wi-fi is temperamental. Book ahead.
