TAXI
In Ulaanbaatar, there are official and unofficial taxis. The official ones are noticeably la-
belled on the exterior and inside may or may not have a meter. The unofficial taxis are
simply locals trawling for passengers.
All charge a standard T800 per kilometre (check the current rate, as it increases regu-
larly). Don't agree to a set daily price because it will always be more than the standard
rate per kilometre.
Most drivers will happily rip off UB newcomers. The more confident you appear, the
better chance you have of getting a fair deal. Before you get in the cab, have some idea
of the route and the price. Always have the driver reset the odometer to zero and agree on
a per-kilometre rate before setting off.
To find a taxi, just stand by the side of a main street and hold your arm out with your
fingers down. After dark, avoid using a private car, stick to an official taxi.

tation for being reliable, safe and honest. Its main clients are expats and the prices are
slightly higher than other companies. Flagfall is T5000 for the first 5km and then T800
per kilometre. A ride to/from the airport to the city centre is T30,000. You can also hire a
car for a city tour for T50,000.
