In-Depth Information
» Police often mean well but language barriers and cultural differences can make dealing
with them a challenge.
» Garbage collection is a serious problem in Ulaanbaatar and you'll spot mounds of trash
everywhere, especially in courtyards and back alleys.
» The number of street children and beggars in Ulaanbaatar has noticeably decreased but
there are still a few around. One way of helping out is to make a donation to a local
orphanage. In terms of offering something to a street kid, handing out fruit or other fresh
food is better than money (as money collected is often taken from them by older boys or
gangs).
EMERGENCY
It might take a few minutes to get hold of an English speaker for these numbers.

INTERNET ACCESS
Widespread use of wi-fi has killed off most of the internet cafes in Ulaanbaatar but there
are still a few around; just look for the signs, which are usually in English. Hourly rates
are reasonable at about T600 to T800, but double that price at hotel business centres.
Connections are generally good.

WI-FI ACCESS
Ulaanbaatar is awash with wi-fi hotspots. Most likely your hotel or guesthouse will
offer it - we've indicated which ones with the symbol. Nearly all cafes and res-
taurant in UB offer free wi-fi. There are several public wi-fi hotspots, mainly in pub-
lic squares and parks, you just need to search for the name 'Kewiko_Free' then
click the link when it appears on your screen. Wi-fi is available in some places at the
airport.
