Genex Hotel
is one of the cheapest hotels in the city centre and gives you a room for under US$70.
But you get what you pay for - the pseudo-European atmosphere is tacky and the lux
rooms are odd-looking, with two queen-size beds pushed into a triangular-shaped alcove.
Standard rooms are poky and not well maintained so expect wonky plumbing, toilets and
light fixtures. The dim-lit karaoke bar in the basement is another red flag.
Kharaa Hotel

The Kharaa has a decent location, a polished overall look and a filling breakfast
that makes it fine for a short stay. But typical of midrange hotels in this town, there a
number of shortcomings. The walls are too thin and bathrooms are tiny. Beds can be
lumpy and the fittings in the bathroom are coming loose. Internet connection is also not
reliable. Finally, no elevator means you may have to lug your bags up four flights of
stairs. Staff are friendly and speak basic English. Pricier rooms offer a little more com-
fort so consider an upgrade.

This friendly hotel has modern and large rooms that are clean and well maintained.
A hot breakfast is included and the rooms have wi-fi. While the staff is friendly, very
little English is spoken. Rooms facing the street and those on the 11th floor (under the
lounge) can be a bit noisy. Another problem is that some rooms can get hot in summer
and there is no air-con, just a fan. The location is reasonably central and easy to spot but
this little stretch of Peace Ave is busy and grubby. A business centre, sauna and a beauty
salon are also on-site.
