The Gobi
Sand-Dune Camel Treks
Trekking across sand dunes on a camel is the iconic Gobi experience. Pack camping gear
and plenty of water - you can trek at Khongoryn Els and Ongiin Khiid.
Gobi Desert
The Gobi Desert is the most sparsely populated region of Mongolia and there are huge
areas where the number of yearly tourists can be counted on one hand. Head for Kher-
men Tsav or southern Gov-Altai.
Dinosaur Bones
The palaeontological record in the Gobi is astounding - a little digging and you might
find a cache of fossilised bones or dinosaur eggs. Try Bayanzag, where Roy Chapman
Andrews uncovered hundreds of dinosaur skeletons in the 1920s.
