Steroidal sulfate pentaglycosides (asterosaponins), goniopectenosides A,
isolated from the polar extract of the starfish Goniopecten demonstrans ,
showed the significant inhibition of settlement of the biofouling marine
brown macroalga, Hincksia irregularis [65].
Antifouling activities against the barnacles, the most troublesome fouling
marine organisms, are shown in Table 15 [66, 67]. The most potent natural
product tested, bufalin 661 wasover100timesmoretoxicthanTBTandover
6000-fold more potent with respect to an antisettlement activity [66, 67]. The
bufalin is a steroid of toad poison, and it is one of component in the secretory
substance of Bufo vulgaris .

Others
Other compounds from the natural products are higher fatty acids, poly-
acetylenes, polycyclic compounds, isothiocyanates, acetylglucoglycerol de-
rivatives, quinones, etc. These compounds are shown in Table 16 [47-49, 68-
70] and Scheme 12.
