Jingshan and Beihai parks
These two wonderful parks are a great way to round off a visit to the Forbidden City. Directly
to its north, the hill of Jingshan provides superb views of the city's orange-roofed buildings;
you'll be better able to appreciate their formation from this wonderful vantage point. From
here, it's a short walk west to Beihai Park , essentially a lake surrounded by walking paths,
and punctuated by its own small hill. Exiting the park to the north will bring you to the south-
ernmost point of Qianhai Lake ; it's quite a way from the south gate of the Forbidden City (a
minimum of 5km), but with regular water breaks you'll be surprised at how easily this dis-
tance can be covered.
