2.4. Groeninge Museum
Although Bruges is a very beautiful city, it is not well known as a centre of the arts in
Europe. But in fact, during the 15th century and onwards, Flemish and Belgian art truly
thrived on a global scale. In the eleven rooms of this museum, you'll gain a complete over-
view of this period and will be able to see some of the most iconic works of Flemish and
Belgian art.
George Van der Paele is one of the most celebrated Flemish painters and he is very well
represented in this museum, with many of his most important works such as Madonna with
Canon, and Madonna by the Master of the Embroidered Foliage on display.
As well as Flemish art, this museum also contains many Renaissance and Baroque works
from the 18th and 19th centuries. You'll be able to spot works from this period from the likes
of Magritte and Delvaux.
