2.1. Market Square
Set right into the heart of the city, the market square in Bruges is the perfect place to start
exploring. Otherwise known as “The Markt”, this square takes up an area of approximately
one hectare, and is the epicentre of the city for both locals and tourists who love to indulge
in a spot of shopping or dining in a picturesque location.
One of the most recommendable restaurants on the square is '57 Restaurant', an ideal spot
on Wollestraat (street) where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, or perhaps even just
dessert accompanied by a glass of wine. With an outdoor terrace, this is the perfect place to
enjoy a spectacular panorama of the market square while indulging in one of the signature
dishes of the restaurant, such as the homemade meat tortellini.
For fans of history and historical architecture, the Market square is also a must visit on a trip
to Bruges.
