Figure 2.4 shows the probability density of the width position of rigid spheres
upstream and downstream, with Re p ¼
0.62. The probability density upstream
was relatively uniform, while that downstream peaked around 125
m
mfromthe
center (i.e., 100
m from the sidewall). This result was consistent with that of
Bhagat et al. [ 1 ], who reported that particles migrated to about 0.4 W from the
sidewalls, where W is the half-width of the test section. The effects of Re p and the
length of the test section on the migration of rigid spheres are shown in Fig. 2.5 .
