not improved. The antenna is well matched and the antenna gain can be improved
significantly when w p = 0.8 and 1.4 mm. But, when the width of the soft-surface
structure is big enough to affect the antenna radiation, the impedance becomes worse
again. After optimization, considering the simulated | S 11 | and gain, the value of w p
is chosen to be 1.4 mm.
The Effect of the Soft-Surface Structure Location
To understand the effectiveness of the soft-surface structure location, we simulated
the | S 11 | and gain of the antenna array for three different types of the soft-surface
structure locations: along x -axial as the Fig. 8 a, along y -axial as the Fig. 8 b, and
along both x -axial and y -axial as the Fig. 8 c, respectively.
