Figure 3.3
Example.of.tournament-based.transposition.and.simple.transposition.for.sexual.transposition.
shown.in . FigureĀ 3.4. . The.transposon.is.then.cut.from.its.original.position.and.
inserted.in.the.space.right.after.the.third.flanking.sequence,.where.the.space.
is.spared.by.shifting.some.genes.
This. gene. transposition. operation. is. suggested. to. replace. crossover. and.
serve.as.the.major.operation.in.a.genetic.algorithm.(GA)..By.testing.with.18.
test. functions. taken. from. References. 10,. 17,. 24,. 38,. and. 61,. it. was. reported.
in.Simoes.and.Costa.[48,49].that.it.outperforms.a.GA.with.crossover..These.
test.functions.cover.various.functional.characteristics,.including.continuity/
discontinuity,. unimodal/multimodal,. high/low/scalable. dimensionality,.
stochastic/deterministic,. quadratic/nonquadratic,. and. convex/nonconvex..
It. was. concluded. that,. by. increasing. the. diversity. in. the. population. using.
transposition,. even. with. a. small. population. of. individuals,. the. results. in.
most. of. the. studied. cases. are. much. better. than. one-point,. two-point,. and.
uniform.crossover..If.the.population.size.is.large,.transposition.outperforms.
all.types.of.crossover.operations.in.all.cases.
