In-Depth Information
thus attenuation of EGF receptor signaling, is a potential cancer therapy. On
the other hand, recovery from many diseases, wounds and chronic injuries
requires epithelial regeneration. Perhaps in vivo inhibition of DPP-9 enzyme
activity would promote Akt pathway activation and thus cell proliferation and
regeneration. These new data suggest that DPP-9 selective inhibitor develop-
ment is crucial to investigate potential applications.
5.5 Conclusion
The success and safety of targeting DPP-4 protease activity, as well as the
potential of FAP-specific proteolysis as a biomarker and therapeutic target,
depend upon a number of favorable biological and biochemical characteristics
of these unusual proteases. Additional therapeutic benefits of exploiting these
and related proteases are likely in future.
