future video coding applications. In this chapter, we give a brief overview of
the latest advances in these technologies. The rest of this chapter is organized
as follows. Section 3.2 elaborates the details for each dimension of scalability
in the AVC-based approach and Section 3.3 describes the basis and varia-
tions of the wavelet-based scheme. It also compares this with the performance
with that of the AVC-based scheme. The latest MPEG activities in SVC are
summarized Section 3.4.
