The results of actual applications proved that proposed method of image fea-
ture extraction can be effectively used for print-to-web linking technology.
In March 2005, the product of MiLuLa was formally adopted as Pattobi-by-
MiLuLa by NTTDATA CORPORATION [18]. This is a server service for
print-to-web linking applications. The performance of MiLuLa is given in
Table 10.1.

10.7 Developments of Print-to-Web Linking Technology
in Japan
With the rapid increase of mobile phone cameras in recent years, industri-
alization of the print-to-web linking technology is becoming a topic of great
interest in Japan since June 2003. Each major maker has expended a great of
energy on the technique and development for the applications of print-to-web
linking technology using a mobile phone camera. The developed technology
or products are then announced. Table 10.2 shows the techniques released by
makers in Japan since June 2003.
Although each technique as shown in Table 10.2 has the required features
respectively, there are still issues which must be resolved before their real
utilization. With the fast development of mobile phone camera techniques,
the utilization of print-to-web linking technology will become reality in the
near future.
10.8 Conclusions and Discussions
In this chapter, I have introduced the techniques used in Japan for print-to-
web linking applications and the development of print-to-web linking technol-
ogy. As shown in Fig. 10.13, the proposed methods used for the applications
