Figure 20. Equilibrium contact angles of aqueous solutions of technical surfactants on Parafilm.
D. Summary
Basics of wetting including wetting on rough surfaces was presented. Spreading as a
rate process was considered and described. Wetting dynamics of aqueous surfactant
solutions over different surfaces was outlined. Both model surfaces and surfaces
of technical relevance as well as pure and technical surfactants were taken into
account. Two most relevant models from literature explaining the spreading be-
haviour of aqueous surfactant solutions over hydrophobic surfaces were displayed.
Some practical tools for technological applications based on the wetting dynamics
of surfactant solutions were illustrated.

Victoria Dutschk is indebted to Boryan Radoev (Sofia University, Bulgaria) for the
careful attention, fruitful discussions about a possible description of spreading as
a rate process according to Eyring's approach. The author is grateful to Radomir
Slavchov (Sofia University, Bulgaria) for performing several numerical studies.

to Burkhard Breitzke, Martin Stolz, Wulf Ruback and Herbert Koch for proving
technical surfactants, solid materials of technological relevance, giving many use-
ful advises in the field of surfactants. The authors are thankful to Victor Starov
(Loughborough University, UK) for many useful discussions.
