continue to permit researchers to explore multicolor flow cytometry with new options
such as the BD Horizon
V450 violet laser reagents aiding that process.
Beckman Coulter s CyAn ADP flow cytometer is a two-option platform incorpor-
ating fast electronics (70,000 events/s) with a software package to efficiently handle
the demands of rare event analysis especially where large data files may have to be
generated. The CyAn ADP 7 Color has nine parameters being equipped with 488 and
642 nm solid-state lasers with capacity for multiple applications including signal
transduction monitoring. CyAn ADP 9 Color adds a 405 nm solid-state laser and two
fluorescent channels permitting stem cell/SP analysis, UV-excited fluor analysis, and
CFP-YFP FRET detection. The MoFlo
platform provides high-speed sorting
capacity and when configured with a 351 nm UV laser and fluorescent emission
detection both in the blue region, using a 450/20 band-pass filter, and in the red region,
using a 675 eFLP filter, is suitable for sorting rare side populations in stem cell
isolation. The new Gallios
flow cytometer has high sensitivity and high-speed data
collection with convenient filter change options with three main configurations
providing 6-10 color, 2-3 laser options and new log/lin transform for visualization
of negative data and compensation optimization.
Partec offers a flexible range of multilaser and multiparameter instrumentation
on their high-end flow cytometers (CyFlow ML and the CyFlow space flow
cytometer) that complement their range of specialized platforms for cell counting and
DNA cell cycle analysis (CyFlow CCA Cell Counter Analyser), HIV monitoring
(CyFlow Counter), and plant ploidy analysis (CyFlow Ploidy Analyser). The
CyFlow SL, for example, has been used for quality control in liquid-based
cytology [27]. The Partec Particle and Cell Sorter PPCS is a closed sorting system
add-on for Partec CyFlow space, Partec PAS, and Partec PA-II platforms.
Specialized applications often require the high-speed preparations of cell subsets
or the collection of rare cells from heterogeneous mixtures. Rare event selection (five-
decade multichannel digital acquisition systemwith 32-bit data processing improving
resolution) and high-speed sorting (four-way sort capability) are provided by
Beckman Coulter
XDP (analyzes 100,000 events/s and sorts
70,000 events/s). The iCyt Reflection System achieves high-speed parallel sorting
with multiple Highly Automated Parallel Sort (HAPS) modules, providing collection
rates past conventional limitswith platforms of the same footprint. An attractive feature
of the iCyt Reflection System is the mounting of the HAPS inside a level III biological
safety cabinet to protect samples and operators from biohazard contamination. The
iCyt Synergy sorter/analyzer platform supports two high performance cell sorter
modules, two automated cell analyzer modules, or a sorter/analyzer combination with
seven standard laser options.

C6 FlowCytometer is a small footprint platform incorporating
fluorescence and two scatter detectors with a sheath-focused core for event rates of
up to 10,000 events/s and sample concentrations over 5
10 7 cells/mL. The C6 is
equipped with a blue and a red laser, two scatter detectors, and four fluorescence
detectors with interference filters optimized for the detection of FITC, PE, PerCP-
Cy5.5, and APC. The C6 measures the volume drawn and hence cell concentration.
Recent evaluations have shown that the system permits the introduction of an agent
