Tsukiji Market Sushi
Tsukiji's Outer Market has dozens of eateries. If you don't have the patience to wait for
a seat at Daiwa Sushi there are plenty of other good places to try. Any place drawing
a crowd is a safe bet, or look to where the workers, in their rubber boots, are heading.
The World Wildlife Fund lists bluefin tuna as an endangered fish, and reports of over-
fishing continue, so if you'd prefer to refrain, tell the sushi chef: Maguro nuki de oneg-
aishimasu (hold the tuna, please).

At stylish Narutomi all the soba (buckwheat noodles) are hand cut, and you can
watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen. Try the gobō ten seiro (cold soba
noodles served in a bamboo basket with burdock tempura; ¥1155). There's a ver-
tical white sign out front and plain white curtains over the door. (
