The National Film Centre is an archive of Japanese and foreign films affiliated
with the National Museum of Modern Art. The 7th-floor gallery offers a concise
history (in English) of Japanese cinema, including rare footage of some of the
earliest films - when the actors were straight off the kabuki (a form of stylised
Japanese theatre based on popular legends) stage - and vintage film memorabilia.

Looking like a glass ship plying the urban waters, this convention centre is one of
Tokyo's architectural marvels. Architect Rafael Viñoly won Japan's first interna-
tional architecture competition with his design; the building was completed in
1996. Take the elevator to the 7th floor of the glass eastern wing to explore the cat-
walks.
