Getting There
Train The JR Yamanote Line stops at Tokyo Station and Yūrakuchō. Tokyo Station
is also serviced by Narita Express and shinkansen (bullet trains), heading north and
south.
Subway The Marunouchi Line runs through Tokyo Station. Several lines such as
Marunouchi, Hanzōmon and Chiyoda Lines stop at Ōtemachi; Chiyoda Line continues
to Nijūbashimae and Hibiya. The Ginza Line services Nihombashi and Kyōbashi.
The Sights in a Day
Take the train to Tokyo Station ( Click here ) to see the recently restored
100-year-old building, then head to the Imperial Palace ( Click here ). A
tour of the grounds begins at 10am (you'll need to book ahead), after which you
can spend an hour exploring the Imperial Palace East Garden ( Click here ). Next,
stroll down elegant Marunouchi Naka-dōri to the Mitsubishi Ichigōkan Museum
( Click here ), followed by lunch at Cafe 1894 ( Click here ) next door.
In the afternoon, amble over to the architecturally impressive Tokyo In-
ternational Forum ( Click here ) , and then to the National Film Centre
( Click here ) for an exhibition on the history of Japanese cinema. Next, walk up
Chūō-dōri, where grand old department stores like Takashimaya ( Click here )
hold court. Make a detour to the colourful Kite Museum ( Click here ) , and make
sure you don't miss Nihombashi ( Click here ) - the bridge that marks the geo-
graphic centre of Tokyo.
