Travellers with Disabilities
Newer or recently renovated buildings have ramps, elevators and barrier-free fa-
cilities. However, there is still a long way to go. Visitors in wheelchairs will find
navigating train stations and crowded city streets a challenge.
Though it hasn't been updated in years, Accessible Tokyo ( http://accessible.jp.org/
tokyo/en/ ) is still the best resource for travellers with disabilities; email them for a
copy of their free guide.
For a list of barrier-free hotels, see http://www.gotokyo.org/en/administration/bar-
rier_free/barrierlist.html .
Visas
Citizens of 61 countries, including Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Korea, New
Zealand, Singapore, USA, UK and almost all European nations do not require
visas to enter Japan for stays of 90 days or less. Consult http://www.mofa.go.jp/
j_info/visit/visa/short/novisa.html for a complete list of visa-exempt countries.
