Tokyo Station
Tokyo Station is the terminus for the shinkansen (bullet train).
Connect here to the JR Yamanote Line or the Marunouchi subway line for points
around the city centre, from 5am to midnight.
Getting Around
Bicycle
Best for… exploring local neighbourhoods.
Cycling is an excellent way to get around some of the fringe neighbourhoods,
though the traffic is not for the faint of heart.
Some budget accommodation (especially around Ueno and Asakusa) have bi-
cycles to lend or know where you can rent one.
Sumida-kōen Bicycle Parking Lot ( OFFLINE MAP ; 1-1 Hanakawado, Taitō-ku; ¥200;
6am-8pm; Ginza Line to Asakusa, exit 5) , next to the Tokyo Cruise Pier in Asakusa,
rents city bikes (¥200/day). Picture ID is required.
Boat
Best for… combining sightseeing with transport.
Tokyo Cruise ( OFFLINE MAP ; Suijō Bus; http://suijobus.co.jp ) Water buses run up and
down the Sumida-gawa (Sumida River), roughly twice an hour between 10am and
6pm, connecting Asakusa with Hama-rikyū Onshi-teien (¥720, 35 minutes) and
Odaiba (¥1520, 50 minutes). Tickets can be purchased immediately before depar-
ture, if available, at any pier.
