Day One
Start the day in Harajuku with a visit to Meiji-jingū ( Click here ), Tokyo's
most famous Shintō shrine. Next stroll down nearby Takeshita-dōri
( Click here ) , a pedestrian alley famous for its wild teen fashions. Then make your
way over to the neighbourhood's main drag, Omote-sandō ( Click here ), to see
some jaw-dropping contemporary architecture. Break for a lunch of dumplings at
local favourite Harajuku Gyōza Rō ( Click here ).
Take the subway to Roppongi and head for Roppongi Hills ( Click here ), a
fascinating city within the city and home to Tokyo's best contemporary art
museum, Mori Art Museum ( Click here ) . Stop for sweeping views over the city
from the adjacent observatory, Tokyo City View ( Click here ), on the 52nd floor. If
time permits, check out Tokyo Midtown ( Click here ), home to the Suntory Mu-

From Roppongi, hop on the subway for Shinjuku, a neighbourhood known
for its bustling crowds and cascades of neon. Have dinner at an izakaya
(Japanese-style pub), such as Donjaka ( Click here ), then explore the various night-
life options in East Shinjuku ( Click here ) . Make sure to raise a glass in Golden
Gai ( Click here ).
