Asakusa Shitamachi
The Walk
Shitamachi is the word used to describe theTokyo that comes close to approximat-
ing the spirit of old Edo. Not only does Asakusa have important temples and
shrines dating to the Edo era (1603-1868), it also has the narrow lanes and
wooden shop fronts that characterise Shitamachi today. This walk will take you
past the main sights, and also along lanes that ooze old-Tokyo atmosphere.

Take a Break
Stop for tempura at Daikokuya ( Click here ) on Dembō-in-dōri. You'll also find
snack vendors along Nakamise-dōri, such as Chōchin Monaka ( Click here ).
