Top Tips
The main hall and its gates are illuminated every day from sunset until 11pm. The
minutes just before the sun sinks make for some of the best pictures of this photogen-
ic sanctuary.
Consider the crowds part of the experience, as there doesn't seem to be a time of a
day when Sensō-ji isn't packed.
Take a Break
Just off of Nakamise-dōri, Daikokuya ( Click here ) serves delicious tempura in an un-
pretentious setting that is typical of Asakusa.
Afterwards, treat yourself to a beer - or better yet,a denki-bran (herbal liquor made in-
house) - at Kamiya Bar ( Click here ), one of Tokyo's oldest western-style bars. It's just
steps away from Kaminarimon.
