This octagonal indoor arena was originally designed as the martial arts stadium
for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. After the Beatles performed here in 1966, it became
the venue of choice for visiting and local musicians. Martial arts tournaments are
held here ocassionally, too. (

Book Town Jimbōchō
Jimbōchō is home to more than 100 second-hand bookshops, and it's a favourite des-
tination for local bibliophiles. Worth a visit is Ohya Shobō ( 3291-0062; www.ohya-
shobo.com ; 1-1 Kanda-Jimbōchō, Chiyoda-ku; 10am-6pm Mon-Sat; Hanzōmon Line to Jimbōchō,
exit A7) , a splendid, musty old bookshop that specialises in ukiyo-e (wood-block prints),
vintage - as in Edo-era - manga , and antique maps. The staff are friendly and help-
ful.
