Top Tip
Navigating Shinjuku Station
Shinjuku Station
is the world's busiest - three million people pass through daily. It's
so big that the wrong exit can take you miles from where you want to be. Check the
exit signs on the train platform and use the correct stairs - this will save you a lot of
trouble above ground.

In the evening, this Michelin-starred restaurant serves exquisite
kaiseki
(Japanese
haute cuisine). On weekdays it does a set lunch of humble
iwashi
(sardines) for
one-tenth the price. In the hands of Nakajima's chefs they're divine; get yours
sashimi or
yanagawa nabe
(stewed with egg). The line for lunch starts to form
shortly before the restaurant opens. Reservations are necessary for dinner.
