Artist Yoshitomo Nara teamed up with design firm Graf to create this spacious and
only slightly off-kilter cafe. Along with wooden schoolhouse chairs, whitewashed
walls and a small cottage, you can find a few scattered examples of Nara's work.
The Japanese-style diner food - think fried chicken with yuzu (citrus) sauce - is

The lunchtime sakana teishoku (fish set meal) has a loyal following; it's fresh,
filling and a steal - especially considering the location on top of Chanel. Options
change daily, depending on what's in season. The dinner menu expands to include
sashimi, small dishes and skewers of grilled meat and vegetables. Look for the
white noren (curtains). ( 4th fl, Gyre Bldg, 5-10-1 Jingūmae, Shibuya-ku; lunch set ¥900, small
dishes ¥380-700;

Boho Tokyoites have been coming here for tasty and nourishing macrobiotic fare
since 1976. The casual, cosy dining room has seen some famous visitors too, like
Paul McCartney. Chef Yamada's menu is heavily vegetarian, but also includes free-
range chicken and Ezo shika (Hokkaidō venison; ¥4800). ( ht-
