Its asymmetrical, geometric shape may not look sinuous from the outside, but the
Spiral Building's name will make sense on entry. Inside, the 1st-floor gallery holds
changing exhibitions and the 2nd-floor shop has homewares, jewellery and other

Not all sentō (public bathhouses) are historical relics - Shimizu-yu has ultra-mod-
ern, white-tile tubs, jet baths and a sauna. Its location means the baths are
routinely filled with young shoppers, perhaps transitioning to a night out, in addi-
tion to the local grandmas. (
