If it's a warm weekend afternoon you can count on a crowd around the grassy ex-
panse of Yoyogi-kōen; revellers and noisemakers of all stripes, from hula-hoopers
to African drum circles to a group of retro greasers dancing around a boom box. (

6 Watari Museum of Contemporary Art (Watari-Um)

Progressive and often provocative, this museum was built in 1990 to a design by
Swiss architect Mario Botta. Exhibits range from retrospectives of established art-
world figures (such as Yayoi Kusama and Nam June Paik) to graffiti and landscape
artists. Some exhibitions spill onto the surrounding streets. (
