There are two things on the menu here: rosu-katsu (fatty loin cutlet) and hire-
katsu (lean fillet cutlet). Sit at the counter to watch the perfectly choreographed
chefs breading, frying and garnishing the tender morsels. Look for a white sign
and noren (doorway curtains) across sliding doors. ( 1-2-1 Shimo-Meguro, Meguro-ku;

RĀMEN

Hardly your typical surly rāmen-ya ( rāmen shop), Afuri has upbeat young cooks
and a hip industrial interior. The unorthodox menu might draw eye-rolls from
purists, but house specialities including yuzu-shio rāmen (egg noodles in a light,
salty broth flavoured with yuzu, a type of citrus, peel) draw queues at lunch. ( 1-1-7
Ebisu, Shibuya-ku; noodles from ¥750;
11am-5am;
