The PAR was approved Dec 11, 2013
by Microsoft, which was released as a SMPTE video codec standard on April 3,
2006. It is today a supported standard found in Blu-ray Discs, Windows Media, and
Xbox 360.

VP9 is a video coding standard developed by Google, targeting on Internet video,
and released in December 2012. It is an open source and royalty-free video codec,
and a successor to VP8 (Westin et al. 2014 ).
