10.4 Summary
This chapter gives a brief introduction to intelligent video and two different imple-
ment architectures, centralized structure, and distributed structure. By the compari-
son, the distributed architecture is more promising, which models the video data at
the cameras and integrates some semantic information into the compressed stream. A
practical intelligent video coding standard, IEEE1857, is introduced, which improves
the coding efficiency as well as reduces the encoding complexity by providing some
model-based techniques. Intelligent video system is a promising solution to effi-
ciently make use of the explosively increasing video data.
