compressed and transmitted to a central severs cluster, where the intelligent analysis
operations are carried out and the results are reported to the personnel.
Figure 10.1 shows a basic intelligent video analysis system (Nam et al. 2012 ).
This is a three-level intelligent video analysis system. The bottom layer is the low-
level context module, which collects the measurable data from sensing hardware in
the monitoring area. These data not only include compressed video streams, but also
may include many other auxiliary data, e.g., audio data and GPS data. The middle
layer is the core part of IVS, which analyzes the data from the bottom layer to
detect abnormal incidents and gives an instruction for appropriate services by jointly
carrying out lots of computer vision algorithms. For example, it can judge whether
there are people entering some forbidden areas by pedestrian detection. The highest
layer is the community service layer, which is an application interface. When an
event occurs, relevant service is active according to the application situations. For
example, when the event of people entering forbidden area is detected, it can send
warnings to the security personnel.
