7.5 Summary
In-loop filter can greatly improve the subjective and objective quality, reducing
obvious distortions whilst retaining important features in the image. However, they
can also increase the complexity on computation and hardware implementation. In
HEVC and AVS-2, some new artful design and optimization for in-loop filters, e.g.,
deblocking filter, sample adaptive offset and adaptive loop filter, make them tradeoff
between the filter complexity and performance very well. They all can improve the
compression performance efficiently.
