In-Depth Information
The relation between deterioration in reproductive potential and the exposure
to industrial chemicals, e.g., in workplaces has been investigated from the 1980s
and found correlation between testicular function and certain chemicals such as
dibromochloropropane, a soil fumigant and nematocide on crops that was widely
used agriculturally until the 1980s (ATSDR, 1992; IRIS, 1999), or chloroprene, the
monomer for the production of the polymer polychloroprene, a type of synthetic rub-
ber (NIOSH, 2010). After the first evidences on reprotoxicity of certain industrial
chemicals, reprotoxicity became a priority hazard and, together with carcinogenicity
and mutagenicity, special attention has been paid to it.
