of the metabolic process of Cr(VI) that gives rise to the myriad of DNA reactive
intermediates and the wide variety of putative DNA lesions that have been identi-
fi ed from this process. Recent studies focusing on DNA repair have helped expand
our knowledge of how many of these lesions may be processed and how, if not
repaired, may lead to the cancerous phenotype in cellular systems. However, there
still remains much work that needs to be done in order to understand the structural
nature of these lesions and the fundamental processes that give rise to them.
