This mechanism does not have quality control on the basis of sequence homology
and, hence, is not error-free, and can lead to deletions and inversions. Imprecise
repair leading to loss of nucleotides can also occur, but is much less common. Inter-
estingly, cisplatin inhibits repair of double-strand breaks by NHEJ. 26 - 28
