Nucleobases and/or Anions as Bridging Ligands
Houlton and coworkers were able to isolate crystals of a polymeric compound based
on tetrameric [Cd 4 (G - Et - en) 4 (H 2 O) 4 ] entities, which are assembled to form water-
lined pores by bridging sulfate anions 11 . Within the tetrameric assembly each Cd(II)
atom is coordinated by a tethered diamine function and N7 of an adjacent guanine
moiety. This arrangement leads to a cylindrical (square) polymer containing an
internal channel with a diameter of about 12 Å
