4.2.1 Triangles
Purines
A molecular triangle has recently been synthesized by Lippert et al. 3a in a self-
assembly process of the metallo fragment trans - [(NH 3 ) 2 Pt(Pu - N7)(H 2 O)] 2+ (Pu = 9 -
methylpurine), previously formed by reacting trans - [(NH 3 ) 2 Pt(OH)Cl] with
9-methylpurine followed by halide abstraction with AgNO 3 . 1 H NMR reveals that
although trans - [(NH 3 ) 2 Pt(Pu - N7)(H 2 O)] 2+ is formed initially, this subsequently
