European lakes. The X -axis represents temperature values, instead of their reciprocals, to
facilitate reading. Dots represent average values for all fish from each lake; bars
represent standard deviations. In both graphs, regression lines and correlation coefficient
values were calculated between logarithmic transformants of gene expression or PCB
contents, depending on the graph, and the reciprocal of absolute temperatures
(discontinuous lines and R 2 values on the graphs). Different lakes are labelled according
their geographic situation: P1-P5, lakes from the Pyrenees; T1 and T2, lakes from the
Tatras; N1 and N2, lakes from central Norway; GK, lake from Austrian Alps; BL, lake from
the Rila Mountains.
