<!-- how many replicates to run for purposes of computing statistics-->
<Number_Runs value=“25”/>
All 172 founders are placed with 4 units between each founder in one
square with at least 100 units separating the opening of the corridor and the
nearest founder. There are 86 carpellate only and 86 staminate only plants
(dioecious). All founders are aged 13; thus, by the age-specifi c reproductive
schedule input above, the founders will reproduce immediately. However,
their offspring must age according to that schedule until they become
reproductive.

Figure 17.12 s hows population growth for this trial, and for three other
trials that are identical, except for the following:
In trials 1 and 3, the 172 founders are in one square in the left preserve.
In trials 2 and 4, the founders are split into two groups, one placed in each
preserve (there are 50% carpellate and staminate plants in each preserve).
Trials 1 and 2 both have a corridor height of 20% of the length of one side
(2,048 units; a 20% corridor).
Trials 3 and 4 both have a corridor height of 40% of the length of one side
(2,048 units; a 40% corridor).
As can be seen in Fig. 17.12, increasing the height of the corridor has
essentially no effect on the rate of population growth regardless of the
pattern of founder placement (i.e., trial 1 is approximately equal to 3 (lower
“curve”); trial 2 is approximately equal to 4). However, among these trials,
splitting the founders into two groups (trials 2 and 4), one in each preserve,
