In-Depth Information
Entire survey area:
<Region XL=“-4,960” YL=“-2,560” XH=“6,303” YH=“2,559” >
Left preserve:
<Rectangle XL=“-4,960” YL=“-2,560” XH=“159” YH=“2,559” />
20% corridor:
<Rectangle XL=“159” YL=“-512” XH=“1,183” YH=“511” />
Right preserve:
<Rectangle XL=“1,183” YL=“-2,560” XH=“6,303” YH=“2,559” />
</Region>
Note that an entire survey area must be designated to form a context for
the preserve specifi cations (the region statement). However, plants grow
and interact only within the preserve system (rectangle statements) and
will die immediately if dispersed outside the preserve system.
NEWGARDEN allows the user to defi ne particular subsections of the
input-designated preserve system for which statistics will be reported.
The following input specifi cations demonstrate how regions for which
data summaries are to be given can be specifi ed (they are rectangles in this
case; more complex regions can be designed). In this case, the areas for
which analysis summaries are given = region 0 (entire survey area as given
above; this will include data only from within the preserve since offspring
dispersed outside the preserve system die immediately); region 1 = left
preserve as given above; region 2 = 20% corridor from above; region 3 =
right preserve from above.

In the above statements, the fi rst rectangle is the left preserve, the second
rectangle is the corridor, and the third rectangle is the right preserve.
<Number_Generations value=“13”/> analyze population growth through
13 generations.
<Number_Runs value=“30”/> data reported are averages taken from 30
replicate runs of the input trial conditions.
