In-Depth Information
Summary
• Most food growers should test soil once a year, but if you don't want to do that,
just one time at the beginning is much better than not at all.
• Be sure to take a good, clean sample and send it to a good lab that is doing Reams-
style testing and giving organic recommendations.
• While you may get numbers for pH, anions and organic matter, the most important
numbers are the base saturation test and the Reams test.
• From the base saturation test, focus on the percentages of calcium, magnesium, po-
tassium and sodium.
• From the Reams test, focus on the availability of nutrients, both cations and anions,
as well as the ratios between them.
