Seeding and Planting
When preparing to seed vegetables, I soak the seeds overnight in a mixture of one tea-
spoon of kelp or sea minerals per quart of water. The next morning I take them out of the
water and sprinkle the seeds with a small amount of mycorrhizal fungi powder. I spread
them out to dry slightly for a few hours to make sowing the seed easier. When possible, I
do this during the second quarter, just before the full moon, saving root vegetables for the
fourth quarter.
Spray Phil's Foliar recipe onto the soil after you seed plants, or directly onto the roots
and foliage of transplants, sod, shrubs and trees as you plant them. Get mycorrhizal fungi
onto the roots of all of these things while you plant them. For lawns and seeds, a powder
can be purchased and sprayed. For transplants, shrubs and trees, it can even be rubbed dir-
ectly on to the roots. Be sure to get the right kind of mycorrhizal fungi for your plants,
which is easy to do. When in doubt, go for an endo/ecto mycorrhizal fungi blend.
Optional: A few days before planting, put out a growth-promoting nitrogen source at two
pounds per 1,000 square feet, along with one cup of molasses or ½ cup of sugar to balance
out the nitrogen. Depending on your soil's needs, products such as calcium nitrate, potassi-
um nitrate or ammonium sulfate may be most appropriate. Even adding fish fertilizer
would be good.
