Dandelion
The dandelion is a monoculture weed, an index of sedimentation, a biography of rain,
root webbing, organic material forever in place and unstirred. In every case calcium is col-
loidally weak or absent. The dandelion simply says organic matter residues are musty and
are barricading the warehoused supplies of food. As the season goes along, dry weather
usually weakens and subdues the dandelion. But if a quicker remedy is sought, the soil
should be treated six to seven inches deep with a supply of high calcium lime. Anyone
really desperate will have to replant, but chances are the dandelion won't be back for a
