Radionics
Dr. Carey Reams stressed that plants grow from energy, not from fertilizers. Calcitic
lime from one source may have a much higher energy than from another source, even if
they look exactly the same chemically. We can actually measure this energy in order to
choose the best product using an electronic scanner, a type of spectrometer used by a small
number of farmers and soil consultants.
Comparing two different sources of lime isn't its only use. The vitality of a plant can be
measured, as can the vitality of a weed. The vitality of a plant can be measured after it's
been treated with a certain foliar fertilizer, in order to see if the vitality raises and you are
therefore using the right fertilizer for the job. The same can be done to see what will lower
a weed's vitality. You may find that you have an excellent fertilizer, but it just doesn't
match the needs of the plant today. We do the same thing with a refractometer for brix
readings, but the scanner can be more accurate in the hands of the right person. It can get
quite detailed, for example determining if you should use sugar, dextrose or molasses in a
foliar spray.
Interestingly, weeds are often strengthened by some of our most common chemical fer-
tilizers and pesticides, while food plants are often weakened. Conversely, plants are often
strengthened and weeds weakened by many of the organic and biological products we've
been looking at so far. Yet, it depends on many conditions, and the scanner — in the hands
of a skillful operator — eliminates the guesswork. Not just anyone can use a scanner. It re-
quires learning and practice.
Once an appropriate fertilizer mixture is found, the “energy” of that fertilizer can be
broadcast into the field rather than having to broadcast the fertilizer. I think of this as being
kind of like homeopathic medicine, where the “information” contained in a substance is
more important than the substance itself. Of course, I know this will be a little too out there
for some readers, and that is just fine. I'm just presenting what works for other people and
letting you decide about what makes sense to you.
